Our School

As one of NJ's leading beauty schools, over our 28-year history, we have educated countless beauty students, training them for state licensing, and preparing them for fulfilling and rewarding careers in the cosmetology and hairstyling industry. Located just 7 miles from Atlantic City, our school helps fulfill the NJ resort and casino industries' booming demand for cosmetology professionals. Shore has won many local student styling competitions and is particularly proud to have captured first place in the State-wide Student Styling Championship. We are extremely proud of our graduates, over 90% of whom have passed the state licensing examination for cosmetology professionals during the past 2 years. State-licensed and fully accredited, Shore offers government financial aid to those who qualify.

Cosmetology & Hairstyling Program at Shore Beauty School

Cosmetology & Hairstyling is a 1,200 hour program (scheduled over 40-weeks for full-time students) teaching the art, science and business of professional beauty care. Under "junior status," your first 600 hours of training will emphasize theory (based on textbooks and lectures) and building basic practical skills as a cosmetology professional. Under "senior status," your next 600 hours of training will continue building on cosmetology fundamentals, while providing you the opportunity to work on live patrons in the clinic under the supervision of your instructor. Course work combines lectures, demonstrations, student participation and practice. You will "learn-by-doing," practicing your rapidly developing skills on both mannequins and live patrons. Audio visual aids and guest artists will supplement your regular instructors.

The Cosmetology & Hairstyling Program is organized according to the following topics: state laws and regulations, sanitation and sterilization, facials, shampooing, hair and scalp treatments, hair shaping, hairstyling, hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing and pressing, thermal curling and waving, manicuring and pedicuring, and chemistry relating to cosmetology. No previous knowledge of any aspect of cosmetology is required or assumed.

Barbering Program at Shore Beauty School

Our Barbering Program follows the 1,200 hour Cosmetology & Hairstyling Program. NJ State licensing does not differentiate between cosmetology and barbering. Although not offered as a separate program, all the skills which were once part of a standalone barbering program in NJ are taught as part of our cosmetology and hairstyling program. Shore offers you the best of both worlds—the flexibility to work as a barber or cosmetologist.

Nail Technology Program at Shore Beauty School

Shore's Nail Technology Program consists of 300 hours of instruction (offered only as part of our cosmetology program) in the art, science and business of professional nail care. Our program covers basic manicuring, pedicuring, nail tipping and wrapping, as well as nail sculpting. You will receive instruction in "theory" (through textbooks and lectures), "classroom-based" practical experience, and "clinical" hands-on experience on actual patrons. No previous knowledge of any aspect of manicuring is required or assumed.

Teacher Training at Shore Beauty School

For those of us who already "Live for Beauty" and wish to help others "Live for Beauty," teaching is a wonderful means of passing on to others ones knowledge of the cosmetology profession. Our Teachers' Training course consists of 500 hours of instruction (scheduled over 17 weeks for a full-time student) in the art, science and business of cosmetology and hairstyling education.

Prerequisites: Students must have at least six months of work experience as licensed cosmetologist and hairstylist and complete a 30 clock hour college course in educational methods. Both of these requirements may be completed while taking the course.
