Our School

The Academy of Hair Design was founded in 1985. The Academy's 6500 square foot facility offers a professional learning environment for each student and comfortable waiting area for the clients. The facility consists of administrative offices, student lunch room and locker area and provides classroom and practical working spaces for students. Each workstation is equipped with hydraulic chair, barbicide and the student's kit and tools for working on clients.

Cosmetology / Hairstyling

The Cosmetology/Hairstyling course is a 44 week program starting on the first Monday of each month. It covers 1600 hours of training. The course of study includes 1480 hours of classroom education and hands-on training. Each morning for the first hour and a half, students are in theory class. For the remainder of the day each student works on clients or mannequins. The hands on training includes cutting, styling, coloring, highlighting, foiling, perming and so on. The Academy has a large video library and often brings in guest speakers for Product Knowledge, Professional Image, Financial Planning, Color technicians, Salon Managers and Cruise Line Recruiters just to name a few.

The Academy is open to the public for hands on training and has a huge clientele which can typically provide each student with 200 or more real people to perform services on. This provides invaluable experience which will instill the confidence needed to work independently upon graduation. Because of this our students are some of the most sought after in the industry.

The Academy uses only professional products to ensure quality results which will prepare the student for the workforce.

The final 120 hours of the course are spent at work experience in local area salons. The Student Services Manager keeps in contact with salons looking to hire and will work with each student in the selection of salons for their work experience.

The student will be prepared to take their Certified Exam with the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick after completion of the course.
