Salon Management
Students are instructed in the subjects pertinent to the entire field of cosmetology, including being able to manage a salon and to teach cosmetology related subjects. The Pivot Point philosophy of hair sculpture and design, color and perming, as well as nails and skin are taught throughout the program. The program strives to develop each student's communication and human relations abilities by offering courses in psychology, public speaking, and computer usage. Some areas presented will be skills-based instruction for client-therapist relations, promotional techniques, business practices and communication with clients. The skills acquired within the course will be of interest and use in the current trend of full service spa salons.
Cosmetology Operator
This facet of the cosmetology industry will prepare the student for an entry-level instructional position within the field of Cosmetology. Students who wish to enter into the Instructor program must graduate from an approved 1250 clock hour program in cosmetology (or its equivalent) prior to being accepted into the Cosmetology Instructor program. The student will be taught teaching techniques for subject matter related to cosmetology curricula. Professional Practices and Salon Management will allow the student to have a well-rounded view of the field of cosmetology instruction. Students will be exposed to teaching methods and techniques. Practical experience in clinical management under direct supervision of the instructor will also occur.
Students will learn how to prepare lesson plans, course outlines, classroom presentation and demonstrations, and review evaluation methods. Students will be taught the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Board of Cosmetology. They will be exposed to the theory and skills of shampooing, hair and scalp treatment, hair-cutting, chemical hair restoring, and hair styling, shaping, and manicuring
